Application of Load Cells in Beam Pumping Units
Leave a message
The "nodding donkey" is a beam pumping unit. A load cell is installed between the wellhead hanger and the polished rod clamp to measure the polished rod load and output an electrical signal. Combined with displacement data, it generates a dynamometer card for diagnosing conditions such as fluid shortage or pump-off, and supports intermittent pumping or shutdown control. Select a capacity about 80% of the maximum polished rod load, and ensure axial loading to avoid side forces. Non-load-bearing methods can also estimate load indirectly from beam strain and inclination, reducing fatigue and maintenance.
